Farm permit and baby chicks

One of the many perks of Charlotte having a farm permit is sending her on errands to get chicken food. We often run out (I blame the ducks and Kyle the turkey). Today I sent her on this errand, and she called me from the store. "Mom, there are adorable baby chicks! Can I get some?".

Here's the truth of the matter; if I were picking up chicken food today, I'd see the chicks and probably lose all self-control. I'd purchase at least a dozen... Last year I accidentally purchased 25 and ended up having to give a few to someone else.
We really did "need" some chicks, as we have lost a few hens this winter, so I told her to buy six. She came home with the exact number I told her to get. :) They are pretty cute, and I might end up with more later this spring because I always have a broody hen, and I like to hatch a few myself.
I was inspired to make a hatching log after I lost count of the days the eggs were in the incubator and had chicks hatching earlier than I expected. Everything turned out fine, but I needed a better way to keep track of the days. This logbook is one of my best-selling low content books on Amazon, and I think that's because it actually is really helpful!
If you hatch your own chicks, take a look! I think you'll like this logbook a lot!
I have an Author Central account on Amazon if you'd like to see some of my other low content books and journals. Self-publishing has been a really fun adventure where I've used the skills I actually went to college for! Graphic Design! It's been a fun creative outlet, and also a way to make a passive income each month. If you'd like to learn more about self-publishing, I am an open book (Ha! See what I did there?).
